ALL IMPORTANT DEFINITION 

1. ANTICLINES:- The uploaded rock beds are called anticlines

2. Anticlinorium:- it refers to folded structures in the regions of folded mountains where are a series of minor anticlines and synclines within  one extensive anticline.

3. Axis of fold:- the plane which bisects the angle between two limbs of the anticline or middle limb of the syncline is axis of fold or axial plane.

4. closed folds: closed folds are those in which the angle between two limbs of a fold is acute angle.

5.crustal bending:-  the bending of crustal rocks due to resultant compressive and tangential force caused by convergent horizontal forces is called crustal bending.

6. Diastrophic force:- The forces caused by both vertical and horizontal movements origintating from deep within the earth are called diastrophic forces.

7.Dip: The inclination of rock beds with respect to horizontal plane is termed as Dip.

8. Endogenetic forces: the forces coming from deep within the earth caused by thermal variations are called endogenetic forces 

9. Epeirogenetic forces: epeirose means continent genesis means origin. the endogenetic movement is responsible for the creation of upliftment and subsidence of continental masses through upward and downward movement are called Epeirogenetic force.

10.  Exogenetic forces: the forces that originated from the atmosphere due to varying combination of temperature and moisture are called exogenetic forces.

11. fault: A faut is a fracture in the crustal rocks wherein the rocks are displaced along the plane.

12. fault dip: the angle between fault plane and horizontal plane 

13. fault plane: the plane along which the rock blocks are displaced is called fault plane.

14. fault scarp: the steep wall like slope formed by the fault 

15. fold: wave like bends formed in brustal bends by tangential compressive forces resulting from the horizontal movement caused by endogenetic force originating deep within the earth are called fold

16. orogenetic movement : oros means mountain and genesis means origin. the horizontal compressive force responsible  for the origin of the mountain are called orogenetic movement.

17. strike: the strike is the direction of any horizontal line along a bedding plane 

18. strike - slip fault: the faults formed due to horizontal displacement of rock block along the fault plan caused by horizontal movement are called strike - slip fault.

19. synclines: downfolded rocks beds due to comressive forces are caused by horizontal tangential forces are called syncline. 

20. synclinorium: it refers to folded structures which includes an extensive syncline having numerous  minor anticlines and synclines within  one extensive anticline.

21. limb: two side of fold is called limb.
