TWO NEW SITES ARE INSCRIPTED ON THE
LIST OF UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE FROM INDIA: TOTAL GOES UPTO 40
The World Heritage
Committee was established under the convention concerning the protection of the
World Cultural and Natural Heritage adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO
on 16th November, 1972.The committee is composed of 21 state parties
meets once in a year, generally June/July for addition, removal or modification
of the sites on the list of World Heritage Site.
ADVISORY BODIES- There are three advisory bodies to advise
the World Heritage Committee. The bodies are- IUCN (International Union for
Conservation of Nature), ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments &
Sites), ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation &
Restoration of Cultural Properties).
CATEGORISATION-The World
Heritage Sites are categorized into 3 parts. These are-
(1) Natural Heritage.
(2) Cultural Heritage
(3)Mixed Heritage.
India joined the committee in 1977.The two state parties are Indian
National Commission for Cooperation With UNESCO (INCCU) and the Archaeological
Survey Of India (ASI) prepare a tentative list of sites in the territory of
India and submit the nomination document to the World Heritage Committee.
After receiving the document sites are considered to be included to the list of
World Heritage Site by the committee. Recently India got two new heritage sites,
these are- Kakatiya
Ramappa Temple & Dholavira:A Harappan City.India bagged 7 natural
heritage sites, 1 mixed heritage site & 32 cultural heritage sites.

(8)Mixed Heritage Site(Cultural+Natural)-
