1. Name the type of forests found in western Ghats.Why these forest s are named so.

The Tropical evergreen forest are found in western part of the western Ghats.The trees of Tropical evergreen forest are called so because the trees in these Forest's are not having the fixed time to shed their leaves. Thus they appear evergreen throughout the year.Moreover these forests received a heavy rainfall.The high humidity in these forests doesn't need to shed their leaves during a particular time.

2. Mention three method for conservation and development of the forests.

Afforestation:- To increase the practice of afforestation.

Reforestation:- To practice this program at regular basis.

Stopped Deforestation:- To stop cutting down forest.

3.Mention three reasons why forests must be conserved.

Three reason to conserve the forests are:-

A. Prevent Soil erosion:- Conserve the forest is needed for the prevention of the soil.

B.Saving Wildlife Animals:-Conserve the forest is needed for saving the wildlife animals.

C.Control desertification and flood:- Conserve the forest is needed for preventing desertification and flood.

4.Name any three trees found in monsoon deciduous forest and state one use of each of these forest.

Sal :- it is used for railway sleeper and house construction.

Teak:- it is used for shipbuilding.

Sandalwood:- it is used for making handicrafts and sandalwood oil is used for making perfumery.


5. Name the tree,the timber of which could be used for the following:-.

I) A soft and white timber used for making toys and match boxes----Semul

ii) A hard durable timber used for building and furniture making---- Team

iii ) A sweet smelling timber which yields an oil,used for making handicrafts---- Sandalwood.

6. Name one region in India for each of the following:-

1) Tidal Forests:- Ganga delta in west bengal, Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna and Kauveri.

2). Thorn and Shrubs:- Gujrat and Rajasthan.

7.Give one important use of each of the following types of trees.

1) Sundari:- it is used for building boats

2) Sandalwood:- it is used for making incense sticks ,

3) Rosewood:- it is used for making expensive furniture and carving.

8. Name the natural vegetation largely found in the following regions:-

A) The delta of Ganga River - Mangrove forest.

B) The Windward side of the western ghats:- Tropical Evergreen forest.

C)The Deccan Plateau:- Tropical Deciduous or Monsoon Deciduous Forest.

9.Identify the tree as per it's characteristics mentioned below.

A) It yields wood that is hard and scented and is usually found in high altitudes.----Deodar.

B) It is generally found in deltaic regions and is used to make boats---- Sundari

C) The furniture made from the wood of this tree is generally the most expensive---- Mahogany.

10) Difference between Afforestation and deforestation.State one disadvantage of Deforestation.

Afforestation:- It is plainting of trees in abandoned areas or any other suitable place in order to improve the environment.

Deforestation:- It is the process of cutting down trees for various purpose like urbanization and industrialization.

State one disadvantage of Deforestation.

1) To loose flora and fauna.

2) To increase Global temperature and also floods.

3) To loose soil particles which results in soil erosion.

11) To which type of forest do the following trees belong ?

1) Hintal and Sundari:- Littoral or Mangrove forests.

2) Rosewood and Ebony:- Tropical Evergreen Forest.

3) Deodar and chir pine:- Mountain Forests.

12)Give three reasons for rapid depletion of forests of forests reason in India in the past.

A) shifting cultivation

B) Growing demand for agricultural land.

C) Growing human capacity.

13) Explain why the forest cover in India is shrinking.?

14)Name the natural vegetation found in the following regions:-

1) The western slopes of western ghats---- Tropical Evergreen forests.

3) Western Rajasthan---- Desert vegetation.

15)Name the state in India where thorn and scrub forest is found?

South- West Punjab, Central and Eastern Rajasthan , Some part of gujrat and M.P.

16) Give two ways by which the trees that are found here have adapted to the climate?

1)These type of trees have long Tapering roots.

2) They have thorny branches with small fleshy leaves turning to spines.

17) Gives two ways in which forests are important.

1) Prevent soil erosion

2) Control Flood 

18) Give two reasons to explain as to why the tropical evergreen forests are difficult to exploit for commercial purpose.

1)Thick under growth 

2)Mixed stand

3Heavy Rainfall

4)Lack of transportation

19) Name any two trees found in Tropical Evergreen Forests.

Rosewood,Ebony, Cinchona and Mahogany.

20) The trees in the Tropical Desert Forest have stunted growth.

This is due to non availability of enough water for growth.

21) There is a gradual increase in the forest cover in India in recent times.

This is due to check on deforestation, shifting cultivation .

22)The trees in Monsoon Deciduous  Forests ,shed their leaves for about March and April.

To prevent transpiration and To preserve water for survival in dry months.
