ANS: The distribution of the working population of an economy according to the different occupations is called occupational structure. There are the categories under occupational structure:

A.Primary sector-agriculture, fishing, mining, forestry, husbandry, loggers come under this category.These are primary because production is carried with the help of nature.

Secondary sector-all manufacturing industries and building and construction workers come under this categories.

Tertiary sector-it provides services to both primary and secondary sectors like transport, communication, commerce, administration and other service come in this categories.

7.    What are the problems faced by adolescents in India?

ANS: 1. The diet available to adolescents is inadequate in all nutrients.

2. A large number of adolescent girls suffer from anemia. Their problems have so far not received adequate attention in the process of development.

ANS: Sex-ratio is defined as the number of females per 1000 males in the population. This information is an impoftant'Soeial indicator to measure the extent of equality between males and females in a society at a given time.

 

Reasons for Unfavourable Sex-ratio for Females :

 

1. Preferential treatment is given to a male child and female children get neglected in most Indian homes.

2. The Infant mortality rate in India is high and female infant mortality rate is still higher.

3. People go through pre-natal sex determination test. In case of a girl child, they abort the child.

4. Women generally have lower social, political and economic status in the Indian

society. We find dowry deaths, opposition to widow remarriages and low nutritional

levels in a woman.

ANS: 1. In spite of many considerable achievements, the health situation is a matter of major concern for India.

2. The consumption of calories per capita is much below the recommended levels. A large percentage of our population is afflicted by malnutrition.

3. The availability of safe drinking water and basic sanitation amenities are to be

availed to only one-third of the rural population. There are a number of people in

India who still live on the streets and beg for the whole day to eat a meal.

4. Underprivileged children are unable to attend school and, and those have the opportunity drop out after a year or so.

5. People below the poverty line live in unhygienic conditions and are so prone to many health problems.

6. With this, the vicious cycle of poor health, lack of education and more poverty keeps on increasing.

 

 

11. Write a short note on National Population Policy.

 

 ANS: 1. Recognizing that the planning of families would improve individual health and welfare, the Government of India initiated the comprehensive Family Planning Program in 1952.

2. The Family Welfare Program has sought to promote responsible and planned

parenthood on a voluntary basis.

3. The national population policy 2000 is a culmination of years of planned efforts.

4. The NPP 2000 provides a policy framework for imparting free and compulsory school education up to 14 years of age, reducing infant mortality rate to below 30 per 1000 live births.

5. Achieving universal immunization of children against all vaccine preventable

diseases, promoting delayed marriage for girls, and making family welfare a people centered program.

 

 

12. Write a short note on the Adolescent Population of India. What are the problems faced by adolescent population?

 

ANS: 1. The significant feature of the Indian population is the size of its adolescent

population. It constitutes 1/5 of the total population of India. Adolescents are grouped in the age group of 10-19 years. They are the most important resource for the feature.

2. Nutritional requirements of adolescents are higher than those of normal child over an adult.

3. Poor nutrition can lead to deficiency and stunted growth. But in India, the diet

available to adolescent is inadequate in all nutrients.

4. A large number of adolescent girls suffer from anemia. Their problems have so far not received adequate attention in the processes of development.

5. The adolescent girls have to be sensitized to the problems they confronted. Their

awareness can be improved through the spread of literacy and education among them.
