Ans:

A census is an official enumeration of population done periodically. In India, the first census was held in the year 1872. The first complete census, however, was taken in the year 1881. Since then the census has been held regularly every tenth year.

A census gives useful and important statistical information about a population. Census is useful for the future policies of the country. The census provides information that government needs to develop policies, plan and run public services, and allocate funding. Census data showing how many people work in different occupations and industries.

 

7.    Uttar Pradesh is most populated state of India. Give reasons.

Ans: There are multiple reasons.

1. UP is well irrigated by mighty rivers like Gangaji, Yamuna, Ghaghra, Gomti etc. They carry a large amount of silt from the mountain which gets deposited to plains of UP making it very fertile where anything can grow. This is one single most important fact that has attracted settlers as well as invaders to UP from a long time.

2. Plains of UP as the name suggest are plain and they follow the same pattern in all over UP except some part of Jhansi. Before the advent of the modern way of construction and road building techniques which have long determined the pattern of a settling of people.

3. The climatic conditions are very helpful to live here.

4. The rivers flowing here are a good source of irrigation, navigation, and electricity.

5. Agriculture provides raw material to the industries.

2. Hilly, dissected and rocky nature of the terrain areas.

3. Chances of infrastructural developments are very less due to hilly areas.

9. What are the factors responsible for the uneven population distribution of India?

 

Ans:

Factors responsible for the distribution of the population of India can be enlisted as

follows:

1. Mountains deserts or swampy areas have low population density while low-lying plain areas have high population density.

2. Almost half of the Indians population lives in just five states.These are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh while Ladakh and Rajasthan are sparsely populated areas.

3. Places having extreme climates are low populated areas while places having moderate climates are high populated areas.

4. Metro cities and capital cities are densely populated regions due to employment and infrastructure.

5. Population from rural areas is migrating towards urban areas.Thus there is population increases in urban areas and a decrease in rural areas.

6. Transportation and communication provide better chances of economic growth and therefore places having good transportation and communication facilities are more in populated areas, then other areas.

11. Should India feel proud of its size and total population? Give reason.

Ans:

Yes, India should feel proud of its size and total population.

1. The composition of young generation is a strength of India. Tomorrow it will become an asset for a country.

2. They have more efficiency of work and willpower.

3. By providing them a technical skill or proper training they can be converted into a qualitative population of our country.

4. The qualitative population will provide better outcomes and contribution to the GDP of our country.

5. The efficiency of the working population not only contributes in developing scientific technological skill but also helps to increase agricultural growth rate.

6. From a large size of the population, we can find out the good human resources.

 

12. ‘There has been a sudden abrupt rise in population of India since 1961’. Give reason.

Ans: 1. Yes there was a sudden abrupt rise in population of India since 1961. Because medical facilities were made available to the people.B. By the setting up of hospitals and dispensaries, the death rate was decreased and the birth rate was increased.

2. People were illiterate and they were not aware of the family planning programs.

3. People wanted to have as many children as possible, as they looked forward to having a male child. So they tried more children if the elder children were girls.

4. Further, they wanted their sons to take care of them during their old age. They

wanted their family to grow and spread their family tradition and prestige.

5. During many decades people came in from Sri Lanka, Tibet, Nepal, and Bangladesh to India.

6. Till the late 1970s, the family planning was not much popular.
